Srsly? Twitter Pron?

I remember hearing somewhere in the ether that all the BDB characters had appeared on twitter. And I am sure I heard it was Official. Official in the sense that JR Ward had heard and given her blessing for this little project. I don't think this is the case though....

Now I love me some brothers but I didn't go out and immediately start following them all, mainly because that level of fandom makes me uncomfortable and I really don't need much more cluttering up my Twitter stream. It choc full of nonsense as it is.

I was online yesterday though and caught a Twitter from 'Butch' about some event they were having and I thought I would have a peek at his Twitter stream and see if they were posting anything useful about future books or release dates or if it was the normal fandom wank that goes on at the message boards.

And  OMG! it's fandom wank plus a thousand. Srsly, they are totally porning up Twitter.

There was a full fledged love-scene played out in all it's throbbing glory on Twitter. So I checked the rest of the characters and they've all been up to it.  I'm not a prude by any definition of the word but this just seems OTT to me. And really just helps to solidify the opinion that romance fans are just in it for the porn.

@QueenBethBDB *growls as you free my hard cock, pushing me against you ripping your jeans off, running my hands down your back and on your >

@Doc_JaneBDB inside you, spurting hot jets deep inside you, marking you, possessing you, my body contracting up against your core. Moaning*

@VishousBDB *feeling you arch and release inside me triggers another orgasm as I cum at the same time as you gasping, moaning, my nails (c)

@MarissaBDB *hisses as I feel your juices soak my cock, I begin to come again, moaning* Oh god..so perfect, baby!!!!! >>

Yeah, I like a hot love scene as much as the next romance reader but there is a time and a place for them. Mainly in between the cover of a book. Not on Twitter. Yeah, I don't think I'll be following these characters. I don't want to be a party pooper but I am pretty sure kids use Twitter and I'm pretty sure JR Ward would blow her top if she knew that was going on. I know they are really strict about keeping the boards PG.

Does anyone else think this is one step too far or am I just a big fuddy-duddy?

I'm in two minds....Scent Of Shadows - Vicki Pettersson

UK Cover
I'm reading 'The Scent Of Shadows' by Vicki Pettersson. This is the first book in 'The Signs of The Zodiac,' series. I'm a Gemini which is the sign of the twins. And boy, does this book have me doing the split personality thing right now.

Half of me is loving it. I'm about 12 chapters in and this IMMENSE thing has happened to the main character and is so far out of left field if you'd given me a copy of the book to read beforehand I STILL wouldn't have guessed what happened. And thinking back is was foreshadowed on the first page but I still didn't quite grasp what the author was about to do. And I love that. I love when authors take a chance and do something INSANE. I love when they stray from the formula. I love when they take an idea and twist it and it becomes something completely new. I love when they shock me. I was reading along and my brain wouldn't quite believe what was on the page. I kept thinking that something would happen at the last minute to stop this awful thing from happening. But it didn't and I was left going 'WTF??'

I am a big fan of WTF?? moments. And this was a big one. Almost as big as what Meljean did to Michael. (And that was a biggie!)

But here's the rub. The world building was so strong and the character was established to quickly and clearly to me, that I would like to see what the story would have been using the formula. As it stands now, I can't see Joanne (the main character) having any kind of happy ending or even a happy-for-now. She did have a romantic interest and the author wrote about their relationship so beautifully I want to see the 'what if,'. I can't see how that's going to happen now. And they only way I can see that they can be together, makes me want to throw the book (and my Sony Reader who is called Red.) against the wall.

US Cover
And the book has been so serious and grim and unrelenting. Very intense. I can't see that changing either. It would be the icing on the cake if there was even a smidgen of humor there. Part of me doesn't want to pick it up again because I know I am going to be disappointed with the outcome of the romantic relationship and I'd like to smile this side of August.

So while I am happy to be surprised and can't wait to see where the book will take me, I am also mourning a life/story that could have been, along with Joanne. It feels so unfair. I want it all for her.

Just as an aside, which do you prefer, the UK or the Us cover??

Sarah Mayberry - Competition Edition

So I know I am at best a sporadic blogger and I stopped doing reviews because they started to feel too much like hard work and were ruining my enjoyment of actual reading. (I was stressing so much) Occasionally though, I like to do a little promo.

Now everyone who knows me or has followed my blog knows I am totally gay for Sarah Mayberry. I think she is the most awesomest, talented, creative, wicked author out there today and she deserves to be in the Romance Hall of Fame just for writing some of the best books available today. She has never let me down as a reader once. She has never written anything I couldn't read a 100 times over. And I would it enjoy it even more at re-read 100, than at read 1. That's how gay I am for Sarah Mayberry.

In the interests of full disclosure I have to tell you I do count Sarah among my many Internet friends now but I loved her books before I stalked started corresponding with her.

I think as romance readers you owe it to yourself to partake of the Mayberry kool-aid and get with the program. If you have never read a Mayberry, why not? Is it because they are category romances, because I call you on that bullshit. Sarah Mayberry can write the ass off any other author out there today full-length, novella or category. She has some of the most innovative categories out there today I think. A herione who  is professional boxer, a hero who is a ballet dancer turned artist, another herione who sings and is a tattoo artist.  And they have the added bonus of coming in the gorgeous, sumptuous Harlequin covers.

So to put my money where my mouth is (although I didn't really) I have 4 signed copies of Sarah Mayberry's newest release 'Hot Island Nights'. It comes out on September 1st in print but is already available in e-book format at Harlequin's website at a very spiffing $3.99.

Elizabeth Morgan didn't intend to abandon her very proper life. But that's the best way to find her true—and less proper—self. So here she is in Australia, standing in front of a man who's clad only in a towel. Nathan Jones is so tempting he could be the ideal candidate to help this good girl be very bad!
Sure enough, thanks to Nathan's talented hands, Elizabeth is living all her sensual fantasies. And while the sex is great, something more is developing. She trusts him, and wants to share her secrets with him, and... Suddenly this feels more like a real relationship than some fun in the sun. Luckily, there's a cure for too much commitment—more wickedness!

I have already read it and it is FAN-TAS-TISH. (That's better than fantastic!) And it's a little extra special to me cause I am in the acknowledgments! Woot! Who knew stalking could get you recognition?

So on to the contest.

To take part you don't have to do anything fancy, just comment to this post before Saturday 28th August at Midnight. That's it. You are one little comment away from glorious Mayberry goodness.

If you want extra entries just tweet or facebook or blog about the comp and let me know by linking it back here or emailing the link to sayuri AT damnheart DOT com. It's open to all.

If you love Sarah Mayberry books as much as me, I would urge you to talk about this competition as much as possible. Not for any other reason than I want to get the Mayberry name out there as much as possible.

Tree sex abounds!

So there is this little in-joke that floats about the blogs about having tree sex. It always makes me giggle and until today it seemed like the most ridiculous thing ever. Until I saw this..

Now, I can see.....

Frailty, thy name is woman!

So I stumbled across my Book Boyfriend list that I posted waaaay back in 2008 when I had just started reading Urban Fantasy/Paranormal Romance and hadn't even looked at a historical/contemporary (don't ask) and I was looking at it and realising that I am a fickle bitch. Why? because I think only two of those people would be on the lists now, nearly two years later.

Here's the old 2008 list:

My top ten list of literary boyfriends just got a new entry right in at No.1

1. Ethan McCabe (Demon Night)

2. Vayl (Jaz Parks Series)

3. Harry Dresden (Dresden Files)

4. Japhrimel (Dante Valentine Series)

5. Heathcliff (Wuthering Heights)

6. Rohan (Dragon Star Series)

7. John Taylor (Nightside Series)

8. Lan (Wheel Of Time)

9. Perrin (Wheel Of Time)

10.Felix Castor (Mike Carey)

The new 2010 list would look like this...

10. Bones (Night Huntress)
09. Ethan McCabe (Demon Night)
08. William Chase (Tumblecreek Series)
07. Chance (Corinne Solomon Series)
06. Branden Kel-Paten (Linnea SInclair)
05.Victor Bayne (Psycop Series)
04.Niko Leandros (Cal Leandros Series)
03.Kade McKay (Rough Riders Series)
02.Butch (BDB series)

and drum roll please....

Number One is.....

01. Terrible (Downside Ghosts)

And despite what I said, that was really difficult. And only one boyfriend survived. I really could expand that to 20 or 30.... *shame* What about you guys, any new additions or has your book boyfriend list stayed pretty much static? Have I missed anyone??
